How We Use AI

ScriptureDepth uses artificial intelligence to help you explore Scripture more deeply. This page explains exactly how that works — what the AI does, how we try to keep it grounded in the text, and where its limits are.

What the AI does

When you ask a Bible question, ScriptureDepth uses a large language model to generate an answer. The model is instructed to ground every response in Scripture — citing the specific book, chapter, and verse rather than offering general religious commentary.

The AI also powers the chapter summaries across all 1,189 chapters of the Bible. These summaries were generated in advance and reviewed for accuracy before being published. They are designed to help you understand what a chapter contains, its key themes, and how it fits within the broader narrative.

Topic pages — covering themes like faith, grace, suffering, prayer, and hundreds of others — are also AI-assisted, drawing together relevant verses from across both Testaments with context and reflection.

How we try to keep it grounded

The most important design principle behind ScriptureDepth is this: the AI should point you back to Scripture, not replace your engagement with it.

  • Verse citations are required. The model is instructed to include specific verse references with every answer. You can always go verify what was cited.
  • Translation is disclosed. When quoting Scripture, the AI identifies the translation used — typically ESV, NIV, or KJV.
  • The AI does not claim to be a pastor or theologian. It is a study aid. We intentionally avoid language that suggests it speaks with pastoral authority.
  • Denominational neutrality. We aim for answers that are broadly acceptable across Christian traditions. Where theology genuinely differs by tradition, the AI notes that rather than taking sides.

Where AI has limits

AI is not infallible. We want to be honest about that.

  • It can make mistakes. The model may occasionally cite a verse incorrectly, misquote a passage, or give an interpretation that doesn't reflect the best scholarship. Always verify with your own Bible.
  • It is not a substitute for your church or pastor. For important theological, spiritual, or life decisions, please consult qualified human teachers and your faith community.
  • Context matters. AI answers are a starting point. Reading the full passage and surrounding chapters will always give you deeper understanding than any summary.
  • Doctrinal nuance is hard. On topics where Christians have genuine disagreement, AI answers may not reflect your tradition. Use them as an entry point, not a final word.

What we don't use AI for

The Bible text itself is not AI-generated. We display the actual words of Scripture. AI helps explain, summarise, and contextualise — it doesn't alter or paraphrase the text.

Reading plans are structured by human editorial judgment. The AI assists with descriptions and context, but the plan structure and book selections are intentional.

Our commitment

ScriptureDepth exists to help people go deeper into God's Word. AI is a tool toward that end — not a replacement for Scripture, prayer, community, or good teaching.

If you ever see something that looks wrong, misleading, or off-theologically, please let us know. We take that seriously.
