Zechariah 9

"Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey."

Zechariah 9:9

Summary

Zechariah 9 begins with God's judgment against Israel's neighboring nations, including Hadrach, Damascus, and Tyre. These judgments aim to bring recognition of the Lord's supremacy. The chapter then transitions to the expected coming of a humble yet righteous King, who will bring peace and dominion over all the earth, symbolizing hope and restoration for Israel and the world. This King will not come as a warrior but as a peaceful ruler, riding on a donkey, fulfilling the prophecy of a Messiah bringing salvation. The latter part of the chapter focuses on the Lord's protection and restoration of His people. God promises to rescue, strengthen, and save the people of Israel, revealing their value and His love for them, similar to jewels in a crown. The closing verses highlight a time of prosperity and harmony brought about by God's intervention and favor.
