BiblePhilippiansChapter 2

Philippians 2

Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.

Philippians 2:5-7

Summary

Philippians chapter 2 emphasizes the importance of humility and unity within the Christian community by encouraging believers to imitate the humility of Christ. Paul urges the Philippians to be of one mind, united in love and purpose, eschewing selfish ambition and conceit. He points to the example of Jesus Christ, who, though divine, humbled Himself by taking on human form and ultimately becoming obedient even to the point of death on a cross. This exemplary humility leads to exaltation, as God raises Jesus to the highest place and grants Him the name above every name. Furthermore, Paul encourages believers to work out their salvation with fear and trembling, acknowledging God's active presence in their lives to will and to work for His good pleasure. Throughout, the apostle highlights the significance of living blamelessly and shining as lights in a dark world, holding fast to the word of life.
