Summary

Matthew 2 narrates the visit of the Magi, the escape to Egypt, and the return to Nazareth, highlighting God's divine intervention and Jesus' fulfillment of prophecy. The chapter opens with the Magi from the East arriving in Jerusalem, searching for the newborn King of the Jews, guided by a star. King Herod, disturbed by this news, deceitfully requests the Magi to inform him of Jesus’ location. Directed by a dream not to return to Herod, the Magi worship Jesus with gifts and take an alternate route home. An angel warns Joseph in a dream to flee to Egypt with Mary and Jesus, safeguarding them from Herod's impending massacre of male infants in Bethlehem, fulfilling Jeremiah’s prophecy of Rachel’s mourning. After Herod's death, an angel instructs Joseph to return to Israel, but fearing Herod's successor, they resettle in Nazareth, fulfilling the prophecy that Jesus would be called a Nazarene.
